One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.

어느날, 굉장한 부자집 아버지가 가난한 사람들이 어찌 사는가를 보여주려고 어린 아들을 데리고 시골로 갔다.


They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

둘이서 찢어지게 가난한 사람 농장에서 2~3일을 보냈다


On their return from their trip, the father asked his son,
'How was the trip?'
'It was great, Dad.'

돌아오면서 아버지가 아들에게 물었다.
"어때. 재미 있었냐?"
"아주 좋았어요, 아빠!!"


'Did you see how poor people live?' the father asked.
'Oh yeah,' said the son.
'So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?' asked the father.

"그래, 가난한 사람이 어떻게 사는지 알았어?"
"예, 아빠!!"
아버지가 묻기를, "그래, 무얼 배웠느냐?"


The son answered:

아들이 대답 하기를----,


'I saw that we have one dog and they had four.

"우린 개가 한 마리 뿐인데, 그 사람들은 네 마리더라고요."


We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.

"우린 수영장이 마당에 있는데 그 사람들은 끝없는 개울이 쫙 놓여 있더라고요."


We have import!ed lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.

"우리 정원에는 수입 전등이 있는데 그 사람들은 밤에 별이 총총이 빛을 내더라고요.


Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

"우리 패티오는 앞마당에만 있는데 그 사람들은 지평선 처럼 끝이 없더라고요. "


We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.

"우리는 작은 땅 안에서 사는데 그 사람들은 들이 한이 없더라고요."


We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.

"우린 하인이 우리를 도와주는데 그 사람들은 남을 도와 주더라고요."


We buy our food, but they grow theirs.

"우린 음식을 사먹는데 그 사람들은 직접 길러 먹더라고요."


We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.'

"우리 집은 담장으로 둘려 싸여 인는데 그 사람들은 친구들에게 싸여 있더라고요."


The boy's father was speechless.

아버지는 망연자실(茫然 自失) 할수 밖에-----,


Then his son added, 'Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.'

아들이 마지막으로 쐐기를 박았다, " 아빠, 고마워, 우리가 얼마나 가난한가를 알게 해주어서-----,"


Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.

보는 관점에 따라 갖고 있는 것를 감사하면 항상 좋은 일이 생기므로 갖고 있지 않은 것에 대해서는 걱정하지 마세요.

나에게 친구가 있다는 그 사실이 얼마나 소중한가를 감사해야 합니다.
